As part of the Heritage Week 2025 celebrations, Khushtar Heritage Collective (KHC) in collaboration with Ahmedabad Global Shapers invites photography enthusiasts, students, travelers, and storytellers to participate in “Heritage Through the Lens” — a photography competition that captures the spirit, stories, and beauty of our tangible and intangible heritage.
This initiative encourages participants to explore local heritage—be it architecture, crafts, rituals, people, or places—and to share their work openly on Wikimedia Commons, helping expand the world’s free visual documentation of Indian heritage
Themes
Participants can submit photographs under the following 4 themes:
Everyday Heritage
Scenes of daily life that reflect continuity of tradition in modern contexts.
Examples: Morning tea at an old bazaar, women drawing rangoli, markets selling traditional crafts
Forgotten Corners
Lesser-known sites, ruins, or fading architectural elements that narrate untold stories of time and decay.
Examples: Abandoned stepwells, neglected havelis, or ruined temples overtaken by nature.
People & Heritage
Portraits and moments showing the connection between people and the heritage they preserve, inhabit, or interpret.
Examples: Caretakers, artisans, priests, locals near monuments, or children playing in old streets.
Sacred Spaces
Photographs reflecting the spiritual dimensions of heritage — temples, mosques, shrines, or pilgrim routes.
Examples: Morning prayers, temple architecture, diyas, or sacred rituals.
How to Participate

Capture and select your best images based on the above themes.

Upload them to Wikimedia Commons with the category name “Heritage Week 2025.”

Write a brief description of the photo: Your memory, why you captured it or its history etc.
